Though Harden was not a free agent this year, he just got paid as if he were one. He only had one year remaining on his contract with a team option for 2017-18 but the Rockets clearly wanted to take care of him now. The move keeps him glued in as the team’s premiere number one option for years to come.
“I’m happy to be here for four more years,” Harden reportedly stated. “This is home for me.”
The Rockets now appear to be geared up as serious contenders in the West, as they’ve recently signed Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson via free agency as well.
