At this point in his career, Klay Thompson has played with or against the best in the world many times over. In fact, Thompson himself is one of the best in the league. Despite all that, the Golden State Warriors star shooting guard still can’t get over the fact that he’s playing alongside the great Kevin Durant:
“I’m still in awe of the guy,” Thompson told Sam Amick of USA Today. “I’m still kind of starstruck when I’m around him, like ‘Man, that’s Kevin Durant, you know? He’s on our team. That’s crazy.’ You get to know him more. He’s such a grounded individual. He’s such a normal guy. He just loves basketball. He’s actually a well-rounded person.”
For Thompson to be “starstruck” around another NBA player really speaks volumes about Durant’s impact and influence. The two are currently suiting up together for Team USA to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Then, in the fall, the two superstars will continue to spend more time together when they suit up for Golden State.
It will be interesting to see how Thompson, Durant and Stephen Curry play together once the 2016-17 season begins, as they are all premiere players who work best with the ball in their respective hands.
