President Barack Obama’s sports fandom has never been a secret. He reveals his March Madness bracket each year on ESPN, roots passionately for the teams of his native Chicago, and gives thoughtful answers to the sports-related questions he regularly gets in interviews.
While he shows interest in all sports, it has always been clear that basketball is his passion. Today, he revealed that he is picking the Golden State Warriors to win it all this season.
“I’m going to go with the Warriors just because of [Kevin] Durant, that addition. I think they just have too much firepower,” President Obama said. “Although they just got spanked in their first game, so it will take a while to figure things out.”

Obama also picked the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl. Two extremely safe, but reasonably smart choices.
Obama decided to ride with the presumptive NBA favorites despite their rough start to the season, and rough end to last season. He wasn’t swayed by the flashy offseason moves of his Chicago Bulls or the allure of riding with LeBron James.
While there is a perfectly good chance Obama will be right, I’m sure LeBron will have a word or two to say about Obama’s choice when he and the Cleveland Cavaliers visit the White House to celebrate their championship.
