After only about 20 minutes into NBA free agency, the first big move was just made by guard Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Beal is now finalizing a deal for max money:
.@WojVerticalNBA: Bradley Beal, Wizards nearing five-year, $128 million maximum deal
— The Vertical (@TheVertical) July 1, 2016
Beal has spent his entire three-year career with the Wizards and clearly the front office has liked what they’ve seen thus far. Beal averaged 17.4 points per game last year and is quickly becoming one of the most productive guards in the league.
He is the first example of the exorbitant amounts of money teams are willing to pay for players that aren’t technically “superstars” due to the major increase in the NBA salary cap in 2016-17.
